We know everything we do as a business will make an impact. There’s no getting round it. That’s why we’re determined to keep reducing that impact. So what have we done so far?
The studio is powered by 100% renewable electrical energy, provided by Ecotricity based in the UK.
We’ve replaced our fluorescent strip lights with energy-efficient lamp bulbs. We use A+ energy rated appliances whenever we can. And we’ve got energy-saving initiatives in place for all our electrical appliances.
We only use non-toxic cleaning products, and Low-VOC or non-VOC paint. (VOC is Volatile Organic Compound, by the way.)
We buy our studio supplies and stationery from sustainable suppliers whenever we can. All our paperbased stationery is either recycled or FSC accredited.
We recycle almost all our waste. But we know ‘almost’ isn’t good enough: we’re always looking to do better. Our paper, card, cans and plastic bottles are recycled by The Laundry, and we’ve joined Islington Council’s food waste trial, turning our waste into compost. We’re also looking into donating our compost to a new community garden scheme. Watch this space. We donate ink cartridges Action Aid, and we promote online file transfers as a better option than burning CDs or DVDs. We can also show how all our waste (including hazardous waste) is dealt with through, responsible and proper measures.
Of course we use public transport. We also specify bicycle couriers whenever possible around London.
We want to help our customers buy products that will be good for future generations as well as this one.
Materials:
We use sustainably sourced, non-toxic, and/or naturally biodegradable materials whenever we can, and aim to specify materials suitable for the product’s life span. We also specify locally recyclable materials, or provide a takeback scheme when necessary. We make use of waste materials, in a ‘cradle to cradle’ fashion, wherever we can.
Manufacturing:
We manufacture in the UK as much as possible, and look for manufacturers with ISO 14001 accreditation. We want to work with people who share our values.
Packaging:
We keep packaging as minimal as we can without compromising the product. We make our packaging in the UK, using sustainable and recyclable materials, as well as water-based, non-toxic inks wherever possible. We also label packaging clearly, to help our customers recycle, and try not to mix materials, so recycling is easier.
